He's Claimed Me

While sitting in the bed of our new pick-up truck in the Rainbow parking lot on Sunday Braden hugged me and said, “My Momma Kelly.” Up until that point the only person he ever said that to was his dad.

This past week with Braden home has gone very well. I feel more relaxed and happy, and Braden seems to be treating me more like a real mom, or at least that is how I feel. Maybe things haven’t changed and I’m just adjusting better. All I know is that it’s been good. He follows me around the house, he wants me to play with him and watch movies with him. He won’t take naps or go to sleep at night until I hug and kiss him. When I’m not in the room I’ll hear him asking Phillip for or about me.

He wants me to be around. At Fleet Farm I went off to find cat food fully expecting Braden with stay with Phillip, but he came running after me, grabbed my hand and happily helped me find food for Monet. We’ve also been trying to get him potty trained since others don’t seem to be putting much effort into it. I’ve told him to tell me when he needs to use the bathroom. He has called Momma Kelly for help and has actually gone when he said he needed to. I feel successful at something. As a result, I took him to the park and have helped him learn how to ride his bike, both of which he was really excited for me to do with him. That makes Momma Kelly feel warm and fuzzy.

I’m feeling really good about my new family and they make me happy. I’m excited to head down to Loup City to see Phillip’s parents, siblings and grandparents. I’m hoping they can make it up next weekend. I’m also excited about how Braden and I are bonding. Let’s hope this next week is just as good!
