When I heard the yodeling, I knew something good would follow. Every morning one of my favorite radio stations marks a request for call-ins from listeners by their crazy yodeling mountain music. Today’s question was what is the most romantic thing your significant other has done for you?
Their point was made from the results of a survey in Australia that showed most people feel romantic comedies have altered their view of romance and left them feeling unsatisfied by false expectations. Those things just don’t happen in the real world…
After listening to what callers and Facebook commenter’s said in relation to the question, I began to think about my soon-to-be husband. What romantic things has he done that maybe I never considered romantic before? In no particular order here were my results of the day:
He takes care of my car making sure it is safe for me to drive.
He cleans the house and shares the responsibilities.
He feeds me wonderfully delicious meals.
He supports me when I am down, gets me to talk things out, holds me so I can fall asleep, puts up with my awkward attempts to figure out my emotions.
He keeps the house in working order and helps me do things I’d have to pay someone to come in and take care of.
He researches deals and discounts and options for whatever it is we need.
He enjoys spending time with my family.
He moved for me. He gave up the life he knew, his friends, his job, and easy visitation with his son to prove to me that he was serious, that he loved me and that I was important to him.
He loves me.
He may not send me flowers everyday at work, take me out to fancy restaurants every night, or chase me down in an airport after I’m about to move away forever after our bad break-up. I know he loves me without those things. He moved for me. With that he makes a daily sacrifice to show me how much he cares. That is probably the most romantic thing he has done. I’m not sure how I could possibly re-pay him for that. On the brink of tears, I must say good-day.
