One Tin Soldier

I loved this song the first time I heard it (Only the cartoon part of the song. The beginning and end of the video are not part of the song). I was at the Volmed Retreat Center in South Africa. The setting sun was streaming in through the windows of the chapel as a couple of us stayed behind after evening prayers to sing. A man's voice, an acoustic guitar and the warmth of summer made it ooooh so good. Plus, the message made me contemplate life.

Bad Lyrics

I do not know how this happened, but I woke up with a melody and a snipet of words repeating over and over in my head. From somewhere in the recesses of my brain an Evita song was trying to escape. This song is so obscure that I didn't even know I knew any of the lyrics to it. So at work this morning I have desperately tried to find the lyrics in an attempt to either get it out of my head or at least know the words and where it came from.

I finally found it, and I could even put those lyrics to the melody. Yet, as I read it I thought to myself: 1. This is a terrible song...look at what its saying and promoting and 2. Where, why and how did this get into my head?!

The Chorus from Goodnight & Thank You in the musical Evita:

There is noone, noone at all
Never has been, and never will be a lover, male or female
Who hasn't an eye on, in fact they rely on
Tricks they can try on their partner
They're hoping their lover will help them or keep them
Support them, promote them
Don't blame them, you're the same

I hope not to, no, I refuse to be the same! If you see support, keep, and promote in a good light...like mutual caring for each other, speaking well about the other and staying committed then yes, ok, but that's not the premise of the song. Not my take anyway.
